Seeking donations from patients is becoming a hospital industry standard nationwide, but some Iowa legislators are not on board with such a plan at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
UI is developing a program to begin this winter that asks outpatients to sign a consent form at check-in so the UI Foundation can contact them about contributing to medical research…
UI said the plans are modeled after similar programs at other hospitals around the country, including University of Michigan Health System, Mayo Clinic and Cleveland Clinic…
Karl Oestreich, a Mayo spokesman, said Mayo doesn't have a similar program as what UI is exploring, but 80 percent of benefactors are patients.
