When Pigs Fly: Is Your Fear of the Swine Flu Extreme?

Although there have only been approximately 670 reported cases of the swine flu in Florida (affecting less than 0.004 percent of our statewide population), it doesn’t come as much of a surprise that people are still fearful of a potential pandemic…

 

Experts at the Mayo Clinic suggest several treatments, including cognitive behavioral counseling and psychoeducation. Antidepressants are also effective for some hypochondriacs. However, some antidepressants can actually increase anxiety, as a side effect, so you should discuss your options with your doctor. The Mayo Clinic also suggests that you keep warning signs in mind and talk with your doctor or therapist about what might cause your health concerns.
