Mayo Makes Cancer Breakthrough

By Kelley Luckstein

Cancer researchers at Mayo Clinic have made a big discovery involving some of the smallest causes of certain types cancer.

The findings could change the way cancer drugs are made in the future.

For nearly a century, researchers have hypothesized that chromosome imbalances in cells cause cancer.

But they've never been able to prove it, until now.

"We have now formal proof that the chromosomal imbalance is causing cancer,” says Jan van Deursen, Ph.D.
