Nicole Engler might have preferred to give birth in a delivery room.
But as she reflected Thursday evening from Methodist Hospital about what had happened a few hours earlier, she didn't sound so sure.
"It was so surreal, like an out-of-body experience," said Engler, 29, as she eagerly reconstructed the birth of her son inside a car along a busy city street. She referred over and over to a calm, friendly woman who had appeared at the car door just seconds after her husband had stopped near the intersection of Fourth Street and Third Avenue Southeast to get help.
