Folks who live outside Rochester, Minnesota might struggle to comprehend the impact of Mayo Clinic upon the employment of this community of a little more than 100,000 people.  Mayo noted recently, for example, that — nationwide — it has a $22 billion effect on the economy each year…

As of February, 2010, according to public affairs manager Karl Oestreich, 31,846 people work on the Rochester campus of Mayo. That's more than one out of every three adults in the community directly employed by Mayo.
