What does latest injury mean for Mauer’s future in Minnesota?

By

When healthy, Minnesota Twins four-time All-Star catcher Joe Mauer(notes) is one of the best players in the game. Unfortunately for him, his health problems continue to plague his availability. After only playing 82 games this season, Mauer is likely to be out for the rest of the season with a mild case of pneumonia. On Sept. 2, Mauer developed an upper respiratory infection causing him to miss a couple of days. After playing in 10 more games, the 28-year-old received a diagnosis at the Mayo Clinic and by doctors' recommendation rest for at least two weeks.
