The Banner Sun Health Research Institute in Sun City and Mayo Clinic Arizona will use an $8 million grant to study Arizonans with Parkinson’s disease and others in their continued quest to find a treatment and cure for the degenerative condition. The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke announced the five-year grant to support a “National Brain and Tissue Resource for Parkinson’s Disease and Related Disorders.” Dr. Thomas Beach of the Banner Sun Health Research Institute is principal investigator and heads the neuropathology operations for the project, while Dr. Charles Adler, of the Mayo Clinic, is co-investigator and directs the clinical aspects of the program. Both are also co-principal investigators of the Arizona Parkinson’s Disease Consortium.
