Diagnosis leads to tough choice for Fargo woman

It was one year ago that Ari Taheri took her health into her own hands, undergoing surgery to remove and reconstruct both of her breasts…For Taheri, the surgery was considered preventative on the left side since the DCIS was in the right breast.  Going the mastectomy route, in particular when it isn’t absolutely required, isn’t for everyone, but according to health experts, it’s becoming more common. Dr. Steven Jacobson, assistant professor of plastic surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., said this choice is gaining popularity as advances are made in the health field.
