Longtime Palo Altan turns 100

A 60-year Palo Alto resident, celebrated her 100th birthday with friends at Trinity Lutheran Church on Sept. 23. Born and raised in Montana, Marquardt grew up breaking horses and branding cattle on her father's ranch. The high school star athlete went on to earn a nursing degree from St. Mary's University in Minnesota. She worked for Dr. William Mayo of the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, where she provided personal care for renowned clarinet player Benny Goodman.
