I just got an email just this morning from Dr. Michael Joyner, the physician at the Mayo Clinic whom I interviewed and quoted in the column that marked the beginning of this adventure. I gave him a progress report, including my recent half marathon time and the time for my 20 miler yesterday, and I whined about my failure to lose the 15 pounds he had prescribed I do. He wrote back: "Peter, very encouraging…..don't over train the next six weeks and try to get a couple of more pounds off. Make sure you taper the last 10 days and when you start to taper you might actually go up a couple of pounds as your glycogen stores get tanked up.
