An endocrinologist at Mayo Clinic Florida has found that some over-the-counter thyroid supplements could pose health risks that include heart problems. Dr. Victor Bernet was the senior investigator on the study, which was released Thursday. The supplements contain varying amounts of two different kinds of thyroid hormones derived from chopped-up animal thyroid glands, Bernet said in a news release.
