More Narcotic Use, Falls, Fractures After Rofecoxib Recall

After rofecoxib (Vioxx) was taken off the market in 2004, patients with painful conditions such as arthritis were increasingly prescribed narcotic analgesics for pain relief…We can't just say "no" to NSAIDs and use narcotics instead," Eric Matheson, MD, chair of the division of rheumatology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and chair of the ACR Committee on Communication and Marketing, told Medscape Medical News.
