Good doctors need good patients to make bariatric surgery a success

When former Dallas Cowboy Nate Newton approached Dr. David Kim about having bariatric surgery, Newton says he was looking for a “magical solution” for the 396 pounds dragging down his 6-foot-2-inch frame… Dr. Maria Collazo-Clavell, an endocrinologist at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., says she advises patients differently than she did 10 years ago, when the operations numbered in the hundreds instead of the current hundreds of thousands.
