Mayo Clinic’s Luis Felipe Bonilla remembered as compassionate surgeon

By

Tracy Bonilla wasn’t really ready to talk about her husband on Tuesday. But when contacted at the Minnesota home she had shared with Luis Felipe Bonilla, she decided to say something brief. “What resides in my mind and my heart is that he was just a noble and wonderful man,” said Tracy, pausing several times while speaking. “He was a wonderful husband and father.” And with that, she apologized for having nothing else to say and hung up the phone. Bonilla, 49, a Mayo cardiac surgeon, was killed in a helicopter crash Monday while trying to pick up a heart for transplant in Gainesville.
