Former Winn-Dixie family well-known for generous donations in Jacksonville

 The Davis family has been gone for five years from the grocery chain that put it at the center of Jacksonville’s business community. But the 67 years that Winn-Dixie and its predecessor have been headquartered in Jacksonville has also meant 67 years of the Davis family living in Jacksonville. And the family has left its mark by donating millions to a variety of institutions — from Mayo Clinic to Edward Waters College, from the Boy Scouts to Jacksonville University, which received $20 million in 1997.
