Are Mayo Clinic proton centers unproven and wasteful?

Two physicians have publicly criticized Mayo Clinic for contributing to rising health-care costs by building two $180 million proton-therapy cancer treatment facilities, but Mayo officials have responded that the treatments are proven to work and are worth the money.
