If at first you don't succeed, quit, quit again. That's the approach that worked for Ron Bauman, 66, of Flower Mound as he enters the New Year as a former smoker for the third and, he hopes, final time. I so appreciate Ron taking the time to talk to me about his struggles to quit smoking. And I gained a new appreciation for how tough it is after talking with Dr. Richard Hunt, director of the Mayo Clinic Nicotine Dependence Center in Rochester, Minn. A former three-pack a day smoker himself, he compares cigarettes to "the holy grail of drug delivery devices, getting nicotine to the brain faster than shooting it intravenously."
