FORUM: Keep bureaucracy out of experimental drug trials

DURING a cruise on Carnival’s Miracle in November 2010, I was sitting in the theater, waiting for the evening show to begin, when a gentleman riding a scooter pulled up in front of me. He almost fell when got off his scooter to sit in a seat. Luckily, his friend caught him before he hit the floor…During the summer, Castellano participated in a clinical trial at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla. It was a double-blind study in which the patient could receive either the real drug, Dexpramipexole, or a placebo. Neither the doctor nor the patient knows if the patient is receiving the drug or the placebo.
