DEAR MAYO CLINIC: I've had sciatica on-and-off for weeks, but for the past few days it has been so bad that I'm uncomfortable all of the time. It feels best when walking, but when I stop or sit down the pain is almost unbearable…ANSWER: Sciatica refers to pain that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve, which runs from the lower back to the buttock and down the back of each leg.
