DEAR MAYO CLINIC: Are there natural ways to prevent gout attacks or at least lessen the severity? I don't want to take medication if it's not necessary. ANSWER: If you have been diagnosed with gout, you can make lifestyle changes that may help lower the risk of future gout attacks.
