Despite its owner facing a massive strike in Canada that has put the brakes on freight traffic, the Iowa, Chicago & Eastern Railroad is still rolling through Austin and southeastern Minnesota…For many years, Mayo Clinic and the city of Rochester strongly opposed the proposed DM&E rail expansion, saying that the increased traffic would be harmful to the area. When the Canadian railroad bought DM&E, the new owners put the plan on the back burner to consider how or if to proceed with it.
