Colon Cancer Surgery With No Major Scars

By Kelley Luckstein

Colorectal cancer is expected to kill 50,000 Americans this year. Nearly three times that many will get the diagnosis. That's one of the reason's March is colorectal cancer awareness month. Sadly, Deb Smith was not surprised when she heard the news from her doctor. "He said, you know I think you have cancer and I need you to go see a surgeon right away," Smith said…

Mayo Clinic colorectal surgeon Eric Dozois removed four to five feet of Smith's cancerous colon. The amazing part; she has no major scars…

"We can seal vessels, we can remove large segments of bowel, the kidney, all kinds of different things," said Dozois. "But we have to get that organ (or tissue) out of the body."
