GE Healthcare, Intel and Mayo Clinic Explore New Models of Health Care Delivery
GE Healthcare, Intel Corporation and Mayo Clinic are investigating a new model of health care delivery for patients at increased risk of rehospitalization that is designed to meet patients’ needs where they are, including in their homes.
Mayo Clinic will conduct a yearlong research study to determine if home monitoring of patients with chronic diseases, using Intel’s remote patient monitoring technology, will reduce hospitalizations and emergency department (ED) visits.

Mayo Clinic said Tuesday that it will conduct a yearlong research study to determine if home monitoring of patients with chronic diseases will reduce hospitalizations and emergency department (ED) visits.
The Rochester, Minn.-based health provider is working with Fairfield, Conn.-based General Electric Co. (NYSE: GE) and Santa Clara, Calif.-based Intel Corp. (Nasdaq: INTC) on the project.

The data is collected into a central Mayo database. Preset data "thresholds" determine whether a medical reading -- such as weight -- is within a normal range for that patient, said Dr. Gregory Hanson, a principal Mayo researcher in the study and a physician in Mayo's department of primary care internal medicine.
