The age of constant testing for prostate cancer appears to be over. The recommendation against the blood test used to detect early prostate cancer was made by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, a panel of health experts tasked with reviewing the effectiveness of procedures. Dr. Scott Helmers, an Urgent Care doctor with Mayo Clinic Health System says, "Actually the new recommendation makes things a little confused right now. The main message is one should talk to their provider about it. The routine screening like say a shopping mall screening - just doing random PSAs is probably not such a good idea."
