It takes a lot of courage to come forward after being sexually assaulted. However, some victims could be forced to wait for an examination…Sexual assault exams need to be performed by specially trained professionals, qualified for the Sexual Assault Response Team. Also known as SART nurses. Mayo Clinic Health Systems Mankato Communications Director Kevin Burns says, "This is a very highly specialized group of nurses, who in addition to their talents and skills as nurses have received extra training." Unfortunately they aren't always available. Mayo Clinic Health System Mankato has seven SART nurses.
