Opposition is hardening against a "southern rail corridor" around Rochester. Dodge County is now on record against the proposal.
Mayo Clinic has been pushing a southern bypass to divert high speed coal trains from going through the middle of Rochester. Rochester and Olmsted County officials have generally been supporting Mayo's effort.
Informational meetings have been held in Hayfield, Stewartville and Rochester to show property owners what some of the planners are considering. There has been vocal opposition from some whose land could be seized for such a project.
Meantime, in July, the Dodge County Board of Commissioners formed as a legal entity called the Dodge County Regional Railroad Authority and then studied the bypass issue.
