Pat Lacy finally got the call that could save his life.
The Omahan rushed to a chartered plane and in hours was on a Mayo Clinic operating table, getting prepped for a double lung transplant.
He awoke only to learn the surgery had never happened. The donor organs were not suitable.
A week later came another call. This time, no dry run.
And today, the 57-year-old accountant is recovering in Rochester, Minn., building strength to come home with his new lungs, new outlook on life and renewed drive to recruit organ donors.
