26.2 With Donna Funds Making Marathon Impact

By Kelley Luckstein

It's almost time for the 3rd Annual 26.2 With Donna. First Coast News has learned funds raised from the race are making a huge impact towards breast cancer research. Since it's inception, the race has raised about $1.5 million dollars. Officials at the Mayo Clinic said thanks to the funding, it now has the technology to identify every gene mutation involved in a cancer cell…

Dr. Aubrey Thompson took a break from his research to help fill the runner's bags.  He said the government does not fund the kind of breast cancer research being done by his team. He said it is considered high risk-high gain experimentation. He believes it would not be possible without the race dollars.
