Mayo Clinic looks toward the future

By Kelley Luckstein

The future of medicine at Mayo Clinic already has begun to appear. In many ways, Mayo administrators are trying to highlight the future rather than worry about the past. The fiscal year 2008 was disastrous as the recession affected nearly every business, including Mayo, a $7 billion nonprofit company that employs more than 32,000 people in Rochester…

Mayo CEO Dr. John Noseworthy said the clinic will finish the year ahead financially…

"Our hope is that we'll be able to do a better job of connecting with people globally," Noseworthy said in December. Locally, that might mean a smaller percentage of total Mayo patients will come to Rochester, though officials say the clinic will remain a "destination medical center."
