Brain surgery for OF

By Kelley Luckstein

Outfielder Ryan Westmoreland, one of the Red Sox’ top minor league prospects, has been diagnosed with a rare vascular irregularity in his brain and will undergo surgery in Arizona Tuesday…

Westmoreland, who turns 20 next month, has a “cavernous malformation’’ that was discovered March 5 at Massachusetts General Hospital…

The malformation, according to information from the Mayo Clinic, is not a form of cancer but can cause bleeding within the brain because of dilated blood vessels.
