Patient photos part of plan to prevent medical errors

By

Don't be surprised if you're asked to strike a pose the next time you stop at Mayo Clinic for an appointment.

Mayo Clinic has started an effort to photograph every patient, in hopes that attaching the photo to your medical record will prevent errors. "Mayo has felt this is one more piece of data that will improve patient safety by correctly identifying patients," said privacy officer Eric Klavetter…

"We've got to go to extraordinary lengths to make sure that we are identifying the patient correctly," said Dr. Chet Rihal, a cardiologist who chaired the photo project on behalf of the Mayo Clinical Practice Committee.
