Officers hope to fill need for help

By

After months of frequent, violent seizures, Xander Torres is getting a respite. The 5-year-old is in a wait-and-see period after his seizures slowed down recently, a family friend said this week.

Xander and his family which includes parents Sarah and Danny Torres, an Omaha police officer, and 3-year-old twin brothers Israel and Zane were able to return home last week after treatment at the Mayo Clinic. Xander underwent surgery there after medications failed to stop the seizures and he began losing the use of his right hand, said Detective Johnny Palermo, who was Torres’ partner on the Omaha police force for five years.
