Player safety a growing problem in NHL

One former Blues player had such injuries, and he was forced to walk away from the game. Now, he’s trying to educate others. Dave Scatchard cried. In August, he sat in Dr. David Dodick’s office at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Ariz., and received the news that ended a 13-year professional hockey career. Scatchard had sustained numerous concussions throughout time on the ice that included NHL stops with the Predators, Vancouver Canucks, New York Islanders, Boston Bruins and Phoenix Coyotes before playing eight games with the Blues last season.
