$109 million cancer center opens in Gilbert

By

A $109 million cancer facility has opened at Banner Gateway Medical Center in Gilbert. The first 23 patients met with their doctors Monday at the new Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center to talk about cancer diagnoses, treatment plans and follow-up visits…Mayo Clinic is spending $187 million to develop a massive proton-beam therapy center that promises targeted radiation treatments at its northeast Phoenix hospital. Dr. Steven Schild, Mayo’s chairman of radiation oncology, said he expects the technology will be beneficial for patients with tumors near organs and children who are more susceptible to radiation exposure over the course of their lives.
