Fmr. Altoona school board member takes first big trip out of hospital, surprises son

By

After more than a year of rehabilitation, Sheila Lehnen made one of her first big trips out of the hospital on Saturday. The former Altoona School Board Member became paralyzed last October, after she fell down her basement stairs and broke her neck…Back in March, the mother of two boys became one of only 100 spinal cord injury patients nationwide, and the first out of Mayo Clinic, to have been implanted with a pacemaker in her diaphragm…Dr. Mark Lindsay, a Mayo Clinic Health System pulmonologist, said Lehnen has been exceeding her goals for recovery.
