A new name is added to the national organ transplant waiting list every 10 minutes… Another couple, Matt and Patti Calimano of Tobyhanna Township, also want to raise awareness…In August 2001, what was supposed to be routine gallbladder surgery at Pocono Medical Center for Matt turned into something far more serious. The doctors discovered his liver was shutting down and his bile ducts were totally clogged…Two years into the diagnosis, the Calimanos started research online, and out of the top five liver transplant centers, they choose the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla. Even though they chose the Mayo Clinic, Matt still had to be accepted into the transplant program by the clinic.
