But a new study suggests that even today, a key safeguard against potential abuse—consent forms—is troublingly vulnerable… The findings come as no surprise to William Tremaine, MD, director of the Office of Human Research Protection at Mayo Clinic, in Rochester, Minn., who was not involved in the study. “Everyone knows research consent forms are too long and complicated,” Dr. Tremaine told Anesthesiology News. “These results underscore the importance of using consent forms as only one part of the informed consent process for research.”
