Facility’s construction to start

By

The Arizona Republic Construction will begin this month on a $182 million facility on the Mayo Clinic Hospital campus in northeast Phoenix that aims to mark a new era in cancer treatment. The facility will house the clinic's proton-beam-therapy program…The first phase of the program is scheduled to open in 2016. "It's a long haul," said Dr. Wyatt Decker, vice president and chief executive officer of the Mayo campus at 5777 E. Mayo Blvd. "But it's a huge structure. We go down about three stories into the ground" and then about three stories into the air, with tons of concrete all around, Decker said. Additional coverage: Phoenix Business Journal
