Remembrance: Mayo Dr. Helmholz, 100, dies

Dr. H. F. "Fred" Helmholz Jr., a pioneer in respiratory therapy education at Mayo Clinic, died Saturday at his Rochester home in the company of family. Helmholz, 100, had a decades-long career with Mayo Clinic, retiring in 1978, and worked during World War II as an aviation researcher in California.
