Free Dirt From Mayo Hospital Saves Phoenix $600,000

By

Mayo Clinic Hospital and the Phoenix Streets Transportation Department have reached an agreement to share dirt. Specifically, the 115,000 cubic yards of dirt that Mayo's contractor, Hunt Construction Group, is digging out to make room for the new proton-beam therapy building on the hospital campus. That is just about enough dirt to fill in the 30-foot difference between the top of Loop 101's 64th Street off-ramps and the existing grade level below the off-ramps, which now connect to nothing.
