The Ovarian Cancer Protection You May Already Have: Ovarian cancer is notoriously difficult to treat, but Mayo Clinic researchers have found that a widely used diabetes drug may help increase the 5-year survival rate of patients with the disease. In a small study, women with ovarian cancer who took the type 2 diabetes drug metformin were, on average, nearly four times more likely to survive for 5 years after diagnosis than women not taking the drug.
